Clove-
(Syzygium aromaticum), is a tropical evergreen tree of the Myrtaceae family and its small reddish-brown flower buds are used as a spice. Cloves were important in the early spice trade and are believed to have originated in the Moluccas, or Spice Islands, of Indonesia. With a strong aroma and hot and pungent taste, cloves are used to flavor many foods, especially meat and bakery products; In Europe and the United States, condiments are a characteristic flavoring of Christmas holiday fare, namely basil and mincemeat. It is one of five dried spices, including fennel, cassia, star anise and Sichuan pepper.
